For art class, our assignment is to pick two different paintings from two different styles and time periods and then combine them in one painting. I’m having a hard time picking two that would fit together and was wondering if anyone had any ideas they could give me.

There are many different types of art in the world. I consider “Art” to be something a person can find beauty in some form. It enhances life as we live it – it breathes new life into the world, it creates fads that may come and go – and even return at times. We truly live in a wonderful world and it’s nice to appreciate these things that surrounds us each and every day.

It can range from actual paintings, music, TV shows, movies, and many other things. Perhaps we have seen a painting before that captivated us. Or perhaps a wonderfully taken picture of a sunset, a city, or the ocean. Perhaps an anime or cartoon may have a distinct and unique style to it. We’ve all probably heard music that we immediately fall in love with at some point or another. Even a TV show can be so funny, or a nice sequence of action scenes that can be a spectacle to behold.

There are movies that may impress us, from the story, to the actors, and a great director. A video game can be so well done, both artistically and within it’s unique playability – that it can also be considered Art.
The world we live in, is constantly surrounded by this Art. Sometimes we can see it, sometimes we don’t – or at times we may just appreciate something later in life to call it art. Each new day into the future brings us many new things to behold and appreciate.

I am having trouble understanding and finding examples on what defines the twentieth and twenty-first century. Whether it is a painting, architecture, or sculpture, I can’t seem to relate any form of art to this century. Kinda makes me feel bad because I love art. What are your thoughts?

I have to create an art portfolio for a graduate program, my undergrad did not require it so it is my first time. I have done a graphic design portfolio but this is different to me. When I take pictures of my work should i have the painting or photograph fill the entire frame or have it up against a background hanging against a white or black wall? Thank you so much.

I have to do a reproduction and write a paper about my selection on Impressionalism.
I chose Paris on a Rainy Day by Callebotte. I was wondering what the painting could mean and the significance of it. How could I interpret it?
Here it is http://www.artyfactory.com/perspective_drawing/artworks/Gustave_Caillebotte/images/paris_street_1.jpg
Thanks so much!!!

I think I’ve heard watercolors. I want to learn on my own. Do you recommend getting an art kit and learning on your own, without having to follow much written instruction? What would you suggest drawing or painting for a beginner? I want to do the best form of art for a beginner, so that it looks good, not like a little kid’s art work. Thx!
