Art Deco Textiles

To add mega-Deco-glamour to your home, incorporate a few of these classic Art Deco textile and fabric trends.

Geometric, angular design Choose one large piece to be your Art Deco focal point. A large area rug, window coverings or an ultra-luxurious bed spread could be the jumping off point for the rest of your room. Choose a fabric with a symmetrical geometric design to achieve that classic Deco look. Chevrons, sunbursts, zigzags and Egyptian motifs are characteristic of the Art Deco period. Bold, bright colours If a geometric statement piece is a bit too much for you, keep it simple with one solid colour, but make it BOLD. Traditional Art Deco colours are ruby, turquoise, emerald and canary. Upholster your couch in a vivid green or add a dramatic pomegranate-coloured carpet to your room – instant Deco drama. Streamlined, monochromatic colours If the first two options intimidate you; go back to basics with a subtle, monochromatic colour scheme. Art Deco style was minimal, streamlined and futuristic. Use cool, sleek fabrics like leather, vinyl and silk in cool or neutral tones like shimmery champagne, cobalt blue or gunmetal grey. Use one shade liberally throughout your room to achieve that upscale, Deco-hotel feel. Zebra prints A major Art Deco trend was zebra print. Incorporating a zebra rug or zebra upholstered club chair into your decor will add a bit of Deco whimsy and glamour to any home. Faint of heart? No problem, sprinkling just a bit of zebra around, perhaps just a couple of small throw pillows, will do the trick as well.
