When doing art, what is most important when deciding which skills to develop?

Is it more important to do art revolving around subjects you find interesting, revolving around a certain area that not many people have ventured into, or revolving around something not necessarily what you find interesting but something you can excel with?

I know this is kind of a stupid question because art means different things to different people I’m just looking for different opinions to gain personal insight and inspiration. Thanks.

If you are planning on selling your art, you need a unique look to make you stand out from the millions of other aspiring artists out there. I buy a lot of art, and I look for paintings and pottery where the artist’s personality shows in the work, and where I feel he or she would be fun to know.

i think in art its not “important” to do anything.
do what you want with confidence and people will respect you for it.
its a form of expression for yourself; not other people.
